Joseph M. Garrel

Founder

Joseph Garrel is the principal of Garrel Miani Financial Group (GMFG). GMFG launched 21 years ago in New York City. The company acquired a second office in South Florida in 2018 and expanded to Key West, FL in 2020.

Joe was honored as one of Forbes’ best-in-state financial security professionals from 2022-2024. Joe focuses on holistic financial planning, wealth management, estate planning, and strategies and benefits for small businesses. He has qualified for the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table1 ten years in a row, including Top of the Table for four years, and is affiliated with Eagle Strategies LLC as a Financial Advisor.

Joe works with a diverse group of clients, including young professionals, families, business owners, pre-retirees and retirees, start-ups, and foreign nationals. Joe’s objective when meeting any new client is to understand their current needs and short and long-term goals. This information helps him develop a personalized approach for clients with innovative solutions to fit their financial needs and help mitigate against taxes2. Joe offers access to products and services from top carriers and wealth managers, and works with tax and estate attorneys, accountants, and bankers to help formulate and implement advanced financial strategies.

Joe is from Great Neck, NY, and graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelors in International Business and Marketing in 2002. He is a big fan of the NY Knicks, an avid tennis player, and loves art and history. He lives in South FL with his wife, two young children, Adrian and Maya, and dog Bruno.

Kathyrn Swihart

Director of Client Relations

Kathryn Swihart is the Director of Client Relations for Garrel Miani Financial Group. She began her career in the legal field, having worked for over 20 years as both a legal secretary and paralegal. She has since been living and working in the Keys and South FL, first working with Phil Miani and then Joe Garrel. With over 12 years of experience focused exclusively on servicing the needs of our clients, Kathryn has honed a unique ability to listen and understand how best to help our clients reach their financial goals. She takes satisfaction in her ability to manage complex concepts in such a way that people are put at ease and deeply satisfied with their experience with GMFG.

Kathryn lives in Sebring, FL, with her husband, Joe. She enjoys gardening, scrapbooking, reading and going on adventures to the many beautiful state parks the state of Florida has to offer.

Ash Magrans

Associate Financial Adviser

Ash brings over 25 years of expertise in finance and business development spanning multiple industries working with executives, business owners and other stakeholders. Having worked in private equity, corporate finance and as an entrepreneur, Ash has extensive experience in consulting, raising debt and equity capital and negotiating large, complex transactions. With over a $1Bn in transaction volume executed, his diverse background affords him a unique perspective and ability to work with a diverse set of clients. He is a trusted advisor leading by example with respect, honesty and integrity.

Ash holds an MBA from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) Charterholder. He lives in Aventura, FL.

Orlie Garrel

Chief Marketing Director

Orlie leads marketing, customer outreach and social media efforts at GMFG. She graduated from UCLA in 2004 and promptly moved to Manhattan to begin her dream career in advertising. Orlie worked at Cosgrove Associates, a financial services marketing agency, for nearly 15 years and climbed the corporate ladder to Account Director. Her main clients included Visa, Chase, UBS, PNC Bank, Disney and Amazon, among others. Now Orlie lives in Aventura, FL with her husband and two kids, and loves to salsa dance, play tennis and go on international adventures with her family.
